Like any other classic James Patterson novel, it incorporates serial murders that take place in very similar ways. At the same time, it has suspense right up until the end.
A backdrop of the series will be Alex's ongoing battle to regain custody of his smallest son ("Little" Alex or Ali) who is living with his mother by law. At this point, you can almost feel Cross' pain and if you are a longtime reader of his books, you can understand how he feels and how he acts. This is a powerful aspect of reading--actually getting into the character. James Patterson accomplishes this.
After London Bridges and The Big Bad Wolf underwhelmed, Mary Mary is no stinker. It completely amazes any of his longtime readers or newcomers. Also, it is the entryway into Cross, his next novel, which is both shocking and riveting.
Many of his newcomers need to understand his style of writing. James Patterson writes shorter chapters than most authors. Additionally, he writes in first-person for Alex Cross, but third person when describing the actions of the criminals, etc. This can be confusing at times, but is also very interesting.
James Patterson's latest novel is suspenseful and invigorating. It is a must-read for anybody who enjoys murder novels and suspense novels. Bravo!
